What Are You Fixated On?

Everything begins in the mind. All our words and actions and feelings have their starting point in our minds and what’s in our minds is influenced s lot by our environment or what we expose ourselves to. Our minds take note of the things we see, and hear and saves them. And so it is important for us to protect what gets into our minds.

I sold my TV a number of years back because I felt the news was not healthy for me. The negativity got to an all time high and I would be left feeling angry and down after watching the news. Now, I know it’s important to stay abreast of current affairs, and this is why I thank God for the internet and some of my friends, because in this way, I get to control what I hear or see, without the extras. I get to decide what is healthy information for me to know.

Everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial. One Apostle Paul spoke those words, or words close to that. All news is acceptable, so to speak but not all of it is beneficial, to me.

I kind of understand the gist of when God says to get rid of the thing that causes you to sin. If it is your right hand, cut it off. Remove the thing that causes you to stumble. I know, I digress but you get the point. We are in control. At times we forget and give this power away but we are in control. Out lives and how they turn out is our responsibility. The sooner you grasp that, the sooner you will start making better and healthier choices for you.

Our thoughts become our actions. So you need to decide what acts you want to have, and place yourself in an environment that will allow for the planting of the seed that will grow into those acts. It is important, the things you expose yourself to. The things that turn over and over in your head. Guard your mind.

“Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.”
